Industrial application - inspection of presses

Andilog has worked with companies in the packaging industry to develop a compressive force measurement solution that determines the load applied to a wooden pallet by a hydraulic press. The working space under the press was limited and the challenge was to adapt the measuring device to the existing equipment. The aim was to check the force values, to detect the deviating values and to adapt the quality processes accordingly.

The achievement of the project goals led to a continuous optimization program of the packaging process and to an improvement of the service life of the hydraulic press.

 

The ANDILOG solution

To determine the force exerted by the hydraulic press during the press cycle, the LLB4 mini press force sensor with its Centor Touch digital display was mounted on a support plate.

The assembly required hardened washers and a custom-made support plate suitable for the threaded holes of the LLB4. This mounting allows the force gauge to be fully integrated into the packaging process.

The Centor Touch displays the applied force, the curve during the entire manufacturing process and the force peak value in real time. In order to check the control process, the force gauge can also communicate with the controller through its integrated input-output trigger.

Results

The external sensor LLB4 with Centor Touch allows the simultaneous display of maximum force and raw data for an optimal check of the load applied by the hydraulic press.

 

The products of ANDILOG

Andilog offers a wide range of digital force gauges with external load cells. They are suitable for limited spaces, large force measuring ranges and special mounting conditions.

The external sensor LLB4 with its mounting holes meets the requirements of this project thanks to its high measuring range up to 5 000 N (1,125 Lbs), its threaded holes and small dimensions (or 31.20 mm/1,23 inches outer diameter). For this application the Centor Touch with external force sensor LLB4 was offered to our customer.

 

Principle of operation

  • The wooden pallet is placed under the hydraulic press
  • The LLB4 is placed on the pallet
  • The user zeroes the Centor Touch force gauge and starts the hydraulic press
  • The press exerts a compressive force on the pallet, the LLB4 sensor measures the load and the Centor Touch displays the applied force in real time
